Clean Water Action is making progress. Our campaign to strengthen and restore protection for all of our water continues to build momentum.
Details[]
Working to close the polluters’ loopholes in the Clean Water Act. These loopholes were created by policy decisions made in 2002 after a series of confusing Supreme Court decisions. Because of these loopholes, over half our streams and 20 million acres of wetlands are vulnerable under to pollution and destruction. And no one can be held accountable.
These streams and wetlands are vital parts of our water infrastructure. They provide drinking water for over 117 million people, serve as critical habitat for fish and wildlife, protect us against floods and filter pollution. For the health of our communities, we need to protect these streams and wetlands.
The Obama Administration has said that clean water is the foundation of healthy communities and a healthy economy. We agree. Along with our members, we’re urging them to finalize their proposals to close the polluters’ loopholes in the Clean Water Act. We’re also fighting back against efforts by some members of the U.S. Congress to block this progress.
Clean Water Action members are a powerful voice for our water. When elected officials know you and your fellow members will hold them accountable for their votes – they vote to protect our water. Your involvement helps us keep the pressure on public officials at every level and ensures that we continue to make clean water progress.
