Background[]
- Community LEARNS is a partnership of Wireless Neighborhoods, the Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation, the Mt. Ararat Community Activity Center, One Vision One Life and the Eastside Neighborhood Employment Center providing ‘academics-first’ afterschool and summer educational, recreational, support, and employment services to Peabody and Schenley High School 9th - 12th graders.
This summer, Community LEARNS is offering several summer options for Peabody and Schenley High School students. We are hiring for the following positions to work in these programs from July 1, 2008 through August 15, 2008:
Instructors - Instructors will be responsible for leading classes of 10-12 students in math, literacy, SAT prep and/or credit recovery. Teaching certification is preferable, but not required. Monday – Thursday schedule from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM and/or 1 PM – 4 PM (This could be a 3 hour/day or 6 hour/day position, flexible). Training on curricula provided. Hourly rate of $15-$25; commensurate with education and experience; Pittsburgh Public School workshop rate for certified teachers.
Classroom Assistants/Tutors - CA’s/tutors will assist classroom instructors with classroom management, delivery of curricula and small group tutoring. Monday – Thursday schedule from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM and/or 1 PM – 4 PM; Possible Friday hours to help chaperone field trips. Training on curricula provided. Hourly rate of $8-$14; commensurate with education and experience.
Community LEARNS Opportunities with Mayor’s Summer Youth Program:[]
Community LEARNS, lead by its partner the Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation, is also teaming up with Mayor Luke Ravenstahl’s Pittsburgh Summer Youth Employment Program (PYSEP) to provide an academic component for 125 of the participants. We are hiring for the following positions to work in this program from July 7, 2008 through August 15, 2008:
Instructors - Instructors will be responsible for leading classes of 12-14 students in reading and writing, life skill development, and career exploration and research. Teaching certification is preferable, but not required. Monday – Friday schedule from 9 AM – 12:30 PM and/or 1 PM – 4:30 PM (This could be a 3.5 hour/day or 7 hour/day position, flexible). Hourly rate of $15-$25; commensurate with education and experience; Pittsburgh Public School workshop rate for certified teachers.
