North Allegheny to upgrade technology in 28 classrooms[]

April 23, 2009, By Rachael Conway, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette [1]

North Allegheny intends to spend $156,000 on new technology for 28 classrooms at the district's Intermediate High School.

Roger Botti, North Allegheny's director of assets, transportation and technology, told the school board last night that the first phase of a two-year plan to improve digital technology at NAI is ready to get underway.

The plan includes a new, $156,272.88 four-year lease-to-own agreement with Hewlett Packard Financial Services that will give North Allegheny 425 desktop computers, 30 laptops, 12 iMac computers and six digital mobile lab carts, Mr. Botti said.

The first phase of the plan will upgrade social studies and science classrooms for the 2009/10 school year. The second phase, which will include improving English and math classrooms, will happen before the 2010/11 school year, Mr. Botti said.

The intent behind the plan is to bring the intermediate high school in line technologically with the high school, which had 55 classrooms improved over the past two years with Classrooms for the Future money.

In the case of NAI, the district will pay for the improvements. Mr. Botti will give the board an official presentation next week when members are scheduled to vote on the plan.

Also at next week's meeting, the board is expected to approve the purchase of new business, computers and information technology textbooks worth more than $28,000.
